We're hiring: NEPO’s Regional Procurement Apprenticeship Programme takes first step to address local skills shortages

Leaders in public sector procurement NEPO proudly announces that it is hiring its first Procurement Apprentices as part of its new Regional Procurement Apprenticeship Programme.

The innovative new programme aims to nurture the next generation of procurement professionals by offering hands on work experience, expert mentorship and the opportunity to gain industry recognised qualifications.

The Regional Procurement Apprenticeship Programme has been designed to tackle skills shortages in the procurement sector and raise awareness of procurement as an attractive career choice. The programme aspires to create a talent pool of qualified procurement professionals by equipping participants with the skills and knowledge required to excel in procurement roles. Apprentices will have the opportunity to work alongside skilled professionals on real world projects gaining valuable insights and practical experience.

Nicola Shelly, managing director at NEPO, is a passionate advocate of apprenticeships having started her own career with a business apprenticeship at Gateshead Council. She said: "Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable skills in the workplace, especially in the public sector. My apprenticeship helped me discover a route into procurement and encouraged me to continue to develop my professional skillset throughout my career, leading to where I am today.

“NEPO and local authorities in the North East with Tees Valley developed the Regional Procurement Apprenticeship Programme to create a talent pool of qualified procurement professionals for the region to ensure public sector procurement attracts, develops and retains a skilled and talented workforce. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this programme will have on the careers of its participants.”

Steven Sinclair, procurement and commercial director at NEPO, said: “We are delighted to be looking for the first apprentices to join NEPO as part of the programme. It’s an amazing opportunity for someone looking for their next step after ‘A’-Levels or university or for those considering a career change. The apprentices will study for the CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) qualification, the industry standard for anybody working in the procurement and supply industry. They will earn an attractive wage and have access to the same benefits as all NEPO employees including hybrid working and generous holidays.”

Applicants interested in applying for NEPO’s Procurement Apprentice vacancy can do so via North East Jobs. The closing date for applications is 11pm Sunday 14 July 2024.
