North East SME wins place on £4.8m Milk contract

In 2017 Embleton Hall Dairies were awarded as first ranked supplier on NEPO’s solution for Milk & Dairy Products. The solution has an estimated value of £4.8m, and will be used by a number of NEPO Member Authorities and North East Associate Members.

This was a significant achievement for the Durham-based SME. Paul Thompson, Director of Embleton Hall Dairies, said:

“Winning a place on this four-year NEPO solution has given us confidence in investing in our business and has brought security of employment for a number of our 53 employees. The nature of our business means that our success is shared by a vast local supply chain of farmers and distributors and has strengthened supplier confidence and trading relationships.”

There are also a number of social value benefits that will be realised as a result of Embleton Hall Dairies’ appointment:
  • An educational programme for local schools involving farm visits and competitions.
  • Promotion of North East food suppliers via British Food Fortnight.
  • Opportunity to develop apprenticeships.

Paul has some excellent advice for any suppliers gearing up to supply the public sector:

“I would strongly recommend that prospective bidders participate in any market consultation carried out by NEPO prior to the procurement process. We attended the one-to-one appointments offered by NEPO in advance of the competitive process. This gave us a clearer picture of what we were bidding for and tender requirements.”
