NEPO food suppliers aim to cut plastic usage

NEPO is working with its food suppliers and other regional stakeholders to explore opportunities to work together to reduce plastic usage. The project will kick-off with a regional meeting to consider how to effect positive action through the existing NEPO solutions, as well as capturing best practice for future specifications.

The agenda will include:
  • An overview of a single-use plastics survey issued by Durham County Council
  • Newcastle University will update attendees on plans for a Food Packaging Centre
  • Open discussion covering suppliers’ projects, funding options, local authority projects, as well as consideration of regional projects and next steps.
The ultimate goal is for 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 in line with the UK Plastics Pact.
