NEPO Awards Liquid Fuels Solution

The North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO) has implemented a new solution for North East local authorities to purchase their liquid fuel requirements.

With an anticipated annual value of over £18M, the solution will be used by all of NEPO’s member authorities, as well as a range of associate members from the wider public sector. NEPO estimates that the new Liquid Fuels solution will save its member authorities approximately £250K over a four-year term.

NEPO’s Liquid Fuels agreement has been awarded to two suppliers; independent distributor Oil NRG Ltd based in Stockton-on-Tees (to supply diesel, gasoil and petrol) and Certas Energy Ltd based in Warrington (to supply kerosene). Certas Energy have been supplying liquid fuels to member authorities as a prime contractor for a number of years. Oil NRG have supplied member authorities as a subcontractor in the past and have now been successfully awarded on the NEPO agreement as a “prime contractor".

Stephen Roberts, Energy Category Manager at NEPO said:

“In addition to significant financial savings for North East local authorities, NEPO’s Liquid Fuels solution will bring wider benefits to our region in terms of social value considerations. Oil NRG are a regional employer and contribute to the regional economy with a firm commitment to using local supply chains to support their operations. This is good news for the north east area as a whole.”

Jeremy Royle from Oil NRG Ltd said:

“We are delighted to have been awarded this work by NEPO and its member authorities. We are especially pleased to have been successful as Oil NRG is a North East company with depots in Stockton-on-Tees and Birtley and Elvington. We very much look forward to continuing to develop our successful working relationship with the region’s public sector. Being awarded onto this agreement is a great reflection of just how hard the whole team have worked in the last few years – we are all thrilled that our product and services have been recognised by NEPO and its member authorities.”
