£900 million North East Civil Engineering & Infrastructure Works Framework Awarded

The North East Procurement Organisation has entered into a four year framework agreement with twenty three successful contractors which signals their intent to move to a new more collaborative approach to civil engineering & infrastructure works across the North East region.

The agreement, which was led on behalf of NEPO by Sunderland City Council, covers fifteen specialist lots ranging from general infrastructure to marine, coastal, public realm and drainage works.

The framework, with an estimated total spend value of between £900 million and £1.5 billion across the region; will aim to implement participating authorities’ works programmes for a four year period.

A pipeline of works is being developed from the Local Authorities' programmes with further competition opportunities emerging in various package sizes.  It is envisaged that the more collaborative approach will drive benefits and efficiencies throughout the period of the framework.

The framework has resulted in 39% of the successful contractors being North East based. Further opportunities for local contractors will be maximised through supply chain opportunities created on each project.

The contract will be under the NEC3 Form of Contract and specific KPIs have been developed to deliver and monitor Social Value in key areas such as Employment & Skills and local supply chain.
